Thanks for another thought provoking analysis. I am struck by the parallels with other professional services firms. As a former partner in a Big 4 Consulting outfit, I know there was always a debate between the idea of individual superstar partners and the power of the (very large) organisation. In practice we found that hiring "stars" from other firms didn't work very well. Individual stars tend to be the visible product of a more complex mix of team, culture and opportunity. Traditional macho sales mindset amplifies the inidvidual but once you change the mix they don't perform the same way.
